Ed Sheeran’s latest single “Sing” has managed to climb to number 1 in the UK singles chart. Surprisingly, despite having twelve top 40 hit singles and a number one album with “+”, this is Sheeran’s first number 1 single in the British charts. The one that came closest before this was his hit The A Team, which peaked at number 3.
“It’s fantastic! It’s nice to finally have a Number 1 in my home country. Thank you to everyone who supported the single for making this happen.” Sheeran told Officialcharts.com when he was informed of the news.
“Sing” is the first track of his upcoming album “X”, which is set for release on June 23. The song is produced and co-written by singer and rapper Pharrell Williams. It has sold close to 124,000 copies in seven days, and it was able to beat Sam Smith’s “Stay With Me”, which currently ranks at number 2, and “I Wanna Feel” by Secondcity which stands at number 3.
In the album charts, In the Lonely Hour by Sam Smith remains firmly on the top spot, while Coldplay’s Ghost Stories is the runner-up at number two.
