2017 so far, has been a really good year for Emma Stone. After winning the Academy Award for Best Actress, she has another accolade to attach to her name, as this year’s highest paid actress!
According to Forbes, Stone earned $26 million over a 12-month scoring period that the magazine has set for its annual list of Hollywood’s highest earning actresses. The period covered is from June 1, 2016 up to June 1, 2017, and the estimated earnings are before taxes and fees.
The bulk of Stone’s income comes from her Academy Award-winning role in La La Land, which grossed $445.3 million in the global box office. Surprisingly, following closely on second place is Jennifer Aniston. Not to say that the former Friends star is not paid that much, after all we all know that she has been making bank since she earned a million dollar per episode from her sitcom. It is surprising because she has not appeared in any major films since 2016’s Office Christmas Party.
But as it turns out she is the only one on the list who does not require any major film or television project to boost her earnings. Aniston’s income comes mostly from endorsements for products like Emirates or Smartwater.
At number three is last year’s highest earner, Jennifer Lawrence, with $24 million. This is down from the $46 million that she earned the previous year.
Both Stone and Lawrence have previously spoken out about the gender pay gap in Hollywood. Stone revealed that some of her male co-stars have taken pay cuts to help with the inequality. “In my career so far, I’ve needed my male co-stars to take a pay cut so that I may have parity with them. And that’s something they do for me because they feel it’s what’s right and fair,” she said. “It’s not about, ‘Women are this and men are that.’ It is, ‘We are all the same, we are all equal, we all deserve the same respect and the same rights.’”
She will be seen next in Battle of the Sexes, a film that is based on the real-life 1973 tennis match between Bobby Riggs and Billie Jean King. Emma Stone will be portraying King while Riggs will be played by Steve Carell, and it is set for wide release on September 22.
