Trying to explain the workings, joys and perils of social media to your older family members is often bad enough for most people, so spare a thought for Emma Stone who was asked to explain it to a critically acclaimed director.
While appearing on Conan yesterday (July 14), to promote her latest film The Irrational Man, Emma Stone told the story of how she introduced the Woody Allen, the man behind classic films such as Midnight In Paris to Twitter. She said:
I had to explain Twitter to him. It’s 140 characters, you have to write these sentences. I don’t really understand the point unless you are a musician advertising a gig or you are comedian doing one liners.
Then, when he asked her for an example of something someone had written on Twitter, she inadvertently used a quote from one of his films he had starred in back in 1989, Crimes And Misdemeanors.
"Tragedy plus time equals comedy."
Allen delighted in telling her the origin of her quote, adding:
It is very funny. I see the point.
