“Why We Love Emma Watson” is a never ending list of reasons of why she is one of Hollywood’s biggest leading ladies, and somehow she just keeps adding to it! This time by laughing her way right through a Turkish leader’s ignorant sexist statement.
Watson was just one of the many women who showcased their defiance against Deputy Prime Minister Bulent Arine. The Prime Minister gave a speech on protecting moral values, but to all he succeeded in doing was annoying a group of sassy, smart and empowered women. I believe the term is “karma.”
“The woman should have chastity… She should not laugh in front of everyone and not be inviting in her behaviour. She should protect her honour. ”And as if telling women “not to laugh” wasn’t enough, he carried on by questioning where the girls that are “symbols of chastity” are.
Where are our girls, who slightly blush, lower their heads and turn their eyes away when we look at their face, becoming the symbol of chastity?
And in the most Emma Watson-ish way possible, she tweeted this and we realize again why we love her! Watson was one of hundreds of women who did their part in protesting the Prime Minister’s statement simply by laughing!
