Emma Watson takes her job as an actress seriously and it is apparent in every film she’s been in. For her upcoming role in Sofia Coppola’s film The Bling Ring Watson did her research. And By research I mean she watched Keeping Up with the Kardashians and The Hills. That sounds like my kind of research!
For those of you who don’t know The Bling Ring is based off of a true story. A group of Calabasas teens burglarized the homes of celebrities like Paris Hilton, Lindsay Lohan, and Megan Fox. Between October 2008 and August 2009 the group stole over $3 million in cash and other belongings. Watson’s character is based off of Alexis Neiers.
Now that you’re all caught up back to Watson and her research, she had to get into Alexis’ head. The best way was through reality starlets. I mean that’s what the original Bling Ring were aspiring to be right? Watson shared, ”It’s easy for her to feel like a parody and I had to understand and sympathize with her. That was the most difficult thing, second to learning the very specific dialect.”
To be clear Emma was in no way, shape, or form trying to start drama with reality stars. She simply believe they are in a different industry than actors who create a brand based off human interest. While others have a craft or trade. ”I think as long as people know the difference, it’s okay. [In LA and Hollywood] I think if there’s a demand for a type of show or type of image, people will supply it. I just think reality TV is another way of telling a story. It’s a different type of acting but that’s what it is,” Watson continues.
The Bling Ring is set to debut at Cannes this week and will hit theaters in the US on June 14th.
