Emmy Awards 2017: Best Dressed

This year’s Emmy Awards red carpet fashion featured a rainbow of bright colors and elegantly attired stars.

The 69th Annual Primetime Emmy Awards, hosted by Stephen Colbert, were entertaining at times, dull at others, and sadly, so was the fashion. Save for a few notable standouts (thank you as always, Nicole Kidman and Jane Fonda), there were no catch-your-breath, jaw-dropping moments or Bjork-level interpretations. Still, the range of vivid colors and beautifully tailored pieces made for some standout moments.

Emmy Awards 2017: Pops of Color and Elegant Simplicity

From vibrant hues to old Hollywood glamour, the fashion on display at this year’s Emmy Awards embraced the gloriously colorful (Tessa Thompson!) with only a few disappointments (sorry, Reese). Bold, bright, and vibrant colors dominated the red carpet overall, though on-trend features were definitely on display (most notably in the fringe on the gowns of Zoe Kravitz and Tracee Ellis Ross).

Jane Fonda stunned in hot-pink Brandon Maxwell, with an equally fabulous bangs-and-ponytail look. The legend and Grace and Frankie-nominated star also rocked a gorgeous emerald necklace that cascaded down her back. Oh, and she turns 80 this year.

How to Get Away With Murder‘s nominated Viola Davis shined in an orange Zac Posen.

Tessa Thompson, star of the upcoming Thor: Ragnarok, proved most colorful of all, in a fantastically rainbow Rosie Assoulin dress.

Proving that basic black is always stunning, nominated Transparent star Judith Light worked her Christian Siriano gown (and best Jolie strut) on the red carpet.

Atlanta star and mastermind (and winner of 2 Emmys) Donald Glover was polished and dapper in a rich purple Gucci tuxedo.

Susan Sarandon, nominated for FEUD: Bette and Joan, looked amazing in Zac Posen.

With her history-making win for Outstanding Lead Actress in a Comedy Series, Veep star Julia Louis Dreyfus’ simple black Carolina Herrera gown with yellow floral accents was lovely and so very JLD.

Emmy Awards 2017: Best Dressed

Jane Fonda is this close, but Nicole Kidman, in a beautiful (and twirly!) Calvin Klein By Appointment red gown, takes top honors from this fashion fan. (She also won Emmy gold, for lead actress in a limited series for Big Little Lies.) From the mini-ballgown cut to the delicate pink jeweled heels, Kidman’s dress is elegant and flirty and regal and playful all at once. Kidman can always be counted on to bring the drama to the red carpet, and at the 69th Annual Primetime Emmy Awards, she struck gold sartorially and professionally.
