Emmy Awards Announce A Shocking Schedule Twist

NULL

Jayden Sheppard
Staff Writer

In a shock scheduling twist according to E! News, NBC and the Television Academy have revealed that the 66th Annual Primetime Emmy Awards will air on August 25th, 2014. Meaning that the award ceremony will air on a Monday night! The move is to avoid conflict with Sunday Night Football.

The last time the Emmys aired on a night other than Sunday, was in 2010, when the trophies were given out on a Wednesday. NBC ran the show in 2010, and like this year, the move was due to the Football in September. Going even further back, the last time the Emmys aired on a Monday was in 1976.

NBC has yet to announce a host. Neil Patrick Harris was host last year and helped pull in the highest ratings the ceremony had seen since 2005. If I had to put money on anyone from NBC’s team to host, I’d say it will be Jimmy Fallon. He did the job back in 2010, and by then he will be sitting comfortably as the host of The Tonight Show. Well that is unless, Jay manages to find a way back behind the desk.

With the awards show now in August, it means the Creative Arts Emmy Awards will be held on Saturday, Aug. 16.

The 2014 Emmys will be shown live coast-to-coast, from the Nokia Theatre at L.A. Coverage begins 5 p.m PT and 8 p.m E.T, which means unlike the Grammys, viewers will be able to watch and tweet along at the same time without any spoilers.
