By the time she hit double-digit age, Essy – real name Rachel Braig – had already taught herself to play piano and begun to write her own songs. Her talent and passion for music later saw her accepted into the prestigious song-writing programs at Berklee College of Music and New York University’s Steinhardt School.
From there, while studying at the University of Virginia, she went onto catch the attention of electro-duo Ship Wrek, and later moved to Nashville to collaborate with hit song-writers including Paris Carney (Adam Lambert), Hunter Hayes and Mike Pappas (OneRepublic). Today, she uses the skills she’s both learned herself and been taught by others, and filters them through into her own original work, for which she began writing and producing in 2019. 2020 saw the release of her debut EP ‘Second Thoughts’, and today, PopWrapped are delighted to premiere her new single “Young Hollywood” which showcases her ability to tell an introspective story as well as her impressive vocal talents.
Essy says of her new release: “’Young Hollywood’ is a song about a “feeling” rather than a person or storyline. It was inspired by a late-night backseat ride down Hollywood Boulevard. I remember feeling completely captivated by the glamour and glitz of the street lights, the music, the traffic, the people. I was swept off my feet instantly. I wanted to write a song that captured that young and free romanticized feeling.”
She goes on to add that: “This track, like “So Far,” was one of my first attempts at producing music. All the sounds are bright, colorful, and kind of naive. I always felt something sentimental and special towards the song, and it inspired much of my writing that came after the fact. It took me years to gain confidence in music production – though the track is older, I finally think I’m ready for it to arrive.”
