It’s agonizing as a fan to see an actor take on a role in a film adaptation of one of your favorite books, isn’t it? Good thing that isn’t the case with Evangeline Lilly! Lilly is a self-proclaimed Tolkien fan, and she went into The Hobbit expecting a certain amount of backlash. Her character, Tauriel, isn’t in the books, after all. In the video below, Lilly discusses the experience of having to speak Elvish and her decision to be a part of the film franchise.
The interview comes as part of Lilly’s press tour to promote her new children’s book, The Squickerwonkers. To be fair, though, the questions about The Hobbit are not completely unrelated – she did work with Johnny Fraser-Allen, A Weta Workshop illustrator who worked on special effects for the films.
