The Danes have long since been regarded as creators of both classic and contemporary music, and, having previously enjoyed chart success on both sides of the Atlantic as Alphabeat — remember “Fascination” and “Boyfriend” ? — Danish DJ duo THANKS are now switching up their sound and style a bit. This time, they’re tipping their hats and paying homage to the likes of Justice and Basement Jaxx.
The pair are no strangers to performing for an audience, having wowed crowds supporting Lady Gaga, while their own headline shows earned rave reviews from both music critics and fans alike. To showcase their new sound and style, the duo have created a stunning mix-tape which PopWrapped is delighted to premiere, and it’s sure to go down a storm this coming festival season.
Beginning with a toe-tapping rhythm which is quickly joined by an eclectic mix-mash of instrumentation, the mix-tape doesn’t get off to the greatest or strongest of starts; however, when the vocal kicks in, I dare you to try to not tap your feet, nod your head or start dancing around whatever space you find yourself in — just be careful if you happen to be driving a vehicle!
The mix-tape presents a truly different side to the duo which the world came to know when they entertained the masses as Ultrabeat; however, they should be commended for wanting and daring to try something new. What they’ve created might not be to everyone’s taste, but, in a music world that thrives on cheesy pop ditties (One Direction, I’m looking at you), THANKS’s blend of dance-electro-pop deserves just as much of a place on the airwaves and in clubs and pubs everywhere as the latest chart hits. Quite whether the pair will achieve the heights of fame they reached in their previous incarnation remains to be seen, but one thing’s for certain: they’re still as passionate and talented as ever.
Check out the mix-tape below and for more information on THANKS, give their page a like on Facebook or follow them on Twitter and Instagram.
