FAKY’s Lil’ Fang on Anime, Manga, and New Song “Take my hand”

FAKY just dropped their newest single “Take my hand” landing a massive opportunity to helm the theme song for Akuma to Love Song (A Devil and Her Love Song), Hulu Japan’s recent live-action series based on the popular manga of the same name.

With years of experience under their belts, the group has earned an impressive reputation for presenting consistent additions to the world of J-Pop, with FAKY now continuing to display their talents on a much larger scale. With recent pleasantly purely welcoming pop-tracks like “99”, “The Light”, or massive collaborations with brands like Adidas, FAKY has proven to take charge of their ambitions for a promising and productive 2021 – and FAKY x Akuma to Love Song is yet another win for the group.

With the group’s dive into the world of manga properties, it gives the group’s member Lil’ Fang a chance to connect with fans about her love for both mediums – so we spoke about some of her favorite titles, “Take my hand”, and her dream anime collaboration.

Your new song for Akuma to Love Song is a really exciting crossover between the manga/anime world and music! Did getting a chance to get involved in this project adds a layer of excitement from the perspective of a fan as well?

Lil’ Fang: I have been a fan of the original comics so I felt pressure but also really happy to be a part of it while creating the music.

I know that there’s some love for anime on your part, so what are a few titles that you’d say are instinctual, go-to favorites?

Lil’ Fang:

  • Neon Genesis Evangelion
  • xxHolicxx
  • Ground Control to Psychoelectric Girl

Anime has really gained so much traction over the years, now with countless titles, live-action adaptations, music, and so on! What would you recommend to fans who might be looking for an introductory anime series/film?

Lil’ Fang: It is difficult to choose because there are so many genres but I would recommend “Lucky Star”. I like this anime’s laid-back atmosphere. The characters are so cute and the stories go slowly so I think this is good as introductory material.

If you were to pick your dream anime to musically collaborate (outside of previous work of course) what would be a property you’d hope to get your hands on?

Lil’ Fang: Attack on Titan! The theme songs for this anime are hard and heavy sound so this is gonna be a good challenge for FAKY but it would be very exciting if our music would be a part of a soundtrack.

I myself have a love for some of the ‘90s and early ‘00s classics because it has such childhood nostalgia for me (like Cowboy Bebop, Yu Yu Hakusho, etc.) Is there a character, anime, or moment in particular that sparks nostalgia?

Lil’ Fang:

  • Cardcaptor Sakura – I set this character for the background of the chat app on my phone!
  • Fushigi Yugi – This manga has so many heart wringing moments that the typical girls’ comics have.

When I first listened to “Take My Hand” it felt like such a perfect song for a manga adaptation because It has that nice nod to epic instrumentals and vocally sounds so effortless! What would you say was a major highlight from getting to work on this project?

Lil’ Fang: Even though it’s still difficult to hold each other’s hand in person, but we put our message that we want to connect to the heart to heart with our important people and support each other. In this entire song, we focused on expressing the story of how a person who’s doing the best by oneself builds a friendship with the folks who could lean on each other.
