Warner Bros. just released a cauldron full of information on the second film in the Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them series.
Early Monday morning, Pottermore, the definitive Harry Potter community news and fan site, shared the first bits of information about the second film in J.K. Rowling’s 1920s wizarding world starring famed magizoologist Newt Scamander.
The yet-to-be-titled film sees the return of Newt (Eddie Redmayne), Tina Goldstein (Katherine Waterston), Queenie Goldstein (Alison Sudol) and Jacob Kowalski (Dan Fogler).
The end of the first film saw Newt revealing that Auror Percival Graves (Colin Farrell) was actually infamous wizard Gellert Grindelwald (Johnny Depp) in disguise. Before Lord Voldemort came around, Grindelwald was the baddest wizard in town.
Fantastic Beasts And Where to Find Them Spoilers
Grindelwald will “make a dramatic escape” from MACUSA, forcing Jude Law’s Albus Dumbledore (before he was headmaster at Harry Potter’s Hogwarts) to join the fight against dark magic, according to a release on Pottermore.
The filmmakers teased parts of the plot of the next film, saying that Dumbledore and Newt will team up in their efforts to catch and defeat Grindelwald and there will be some “surprising nods” to the Harry Potter films.
At the end of the first film, Newt is seen boarding a ship back to Europe and Warner Bros. confirmed that New York, London and Paris will be prominent locations in the next film.
And finally, a host of new characters was announced, including bounty hunter Grimmson (Ingvar Sigurdsson), wizard Yusef Kama (William Nadylam), the owner of a wizarding circus (Ólafur Darri Ólafsson) and Claudia Kim as one of the circus’s attractions.
Callum Turner will appear as Newt’s older brother, Theseus Scamander, and Zoe Kravitz returns as Leta Lestrange.
The plot news comes just as the film starts shooting, with a premiere set for November 2018. It will be the second in a five-film franchise based on stories from Harry Potter author J.K. Rowling.
