Five Reasons To Watch The Oscars!

Abbie Bethell
Staff Writer

February 24, 2013

is the celebration of 85 years of movie magic, a date in all the top movie stars diaries’; here are a few reasons why you should be watching the 85th Academy Awards:

) King of comedy aka Seth Macfarlane is hosting the awards alongside ‘Easy A’ actress Emma Stone, meaning you can expect a lot of fun-poking at the stars and belly full of laughs from the creator of ‘Family Guy’.

The red carpet

. See all your favourite film stars walk the red carpet, whether you’re interested in the glitz and glamour side of things, or if you’re just trying to spot Eddie Redmayne amongst the cast of Les Misérables, the red carpet is where it’s at!

) Whilst ‘Skyfall’ missed out on a nomination for ‘Best Picture’, the hit song of the same name will be performed by Adele. The Golden Globe winning and Oscar nominated song, is likely to bring in a big audience, seeing as it will be the first live performance of the song anywhere!

) Being nominated for a massive 12 Oscars, we’ll have to wait and see if ‘Lincoln’ can pull off a ‘Slumdog Millionaire’ type win, which scooped 8 awards back in 2009 including Best Picture, Best Director and Best Adapted Screenplay.

) Finally, the awards themselves! The biggest reason to tune in to the lavish event is to see who takes home what and who misses out.

The question on everybody’s lips is who will win ‘Best Picture’? Will it be all-star musical

Les Misérables

? Or will it be BAFTA, Golden Globes and SAG triumph

? Or perhaps the less well-known but as worthy as the other contenders, Benh Zeitlin’s

Beasts of the Southern Wild

? Could Quentin Tarantino’s award winning, although controversial film

Django Unchained,

snatch it? Or maybe the Bradley Cooper & Jennifer Lawrence led blockbuster and surprise success with the critics

Silver Linings Playbook

? Also nominated for the prize award are: Foreign language film

, beautiful fantasy film

Life of Pi

, Abraham Lincoln biopic

, and Kathryn Bigelow’s latest venture

Zero Dark Thirty

Convinced? The Oscars will take place at The Dolby Theatre, Los Angeles, CA. Live from The Red Carpet will start 5.30ET/2.30PST. With the awards themselves, Live from 7ET/4PST.
