As the new TV season gets underway (yay for new episodes of Criminal Minds and The Flash!) and new shows attempt to win over their audiences, FOX has given a full season pick-up to Lethal Weapon. Lethal Weapon stars Damon Wayans and Clayne Crawford in the roles originated by Danny Glover and Mel Gibson, respectively.
FOX has ordered five more episodes on top of the ones already filmed. The additional five episodes will take the season total to 18. The full season order comes on the back of Lethal Weapon becoming FOX’s top-rated fall premiere in two years, pulling in an average of 7.1 million viewers and earning a 2.0 demo rating among adults aged 18-49 on Wednesday nights.
FOX Entertainment president David Madden said in a statement:
“Lethal Weapon delivers an explosive and wildly entertaining core relationship between two cops, with dynamic performances by Damon Wayans and Clayne Crawford, surrounded by cinematic action, endearing humor and true heart. We are thrilled to add these episodes to Lethal Weapon’s first season.”
The full season order for the show makes it the fourth freshman series to get one this year. The first show to get a full season pick-up was one of our favorites, NBC’s This Is Us starring Milo Ventimiglia, Mandy Moore and Sterling K. Brown, among other very talented actors. ABC’s Designated Survivor, starring Kiefer Sutherland alongside one of my favorite actresses, Italia Ricci, and Speechless, helmed by Minnie Driver, soon followed.
