Earlier this week, FOX decided to confirm a short list of early renewals for the 2014-2015 season. First up was sophomore series The Mindy Project helmed by the quirky and hilarious, Mindy Kailing. Among other renewals, comedy favourite New Girl, and the freshman, Golden Globe winning series, Brooklyn 99.
An extremely early renewal came for The Following, the cult serial killer drama which has maintained relatively stable ratings throughout this season, with quite a few episodes left to air. FOX chairman Kevin Reilly and Fox COO Joe Earley released a statement following the recent pick-ups;
“These shows are some of the best and acclaimed series on television, with influential, culture-driving stars, and some of the best, most creative talent behind the camera, all four are core assets within our 2014-15 portfolio of content, and we’re really happy to bring them back to our FOX fans for another season.”
This is pretty exciting news for viewers, and now we just await updates on Almost Human, Raising Hope, and Enlisted. The fact that these three pending shows are all that’s left with lower ratings indicates a more likely cancellation, but we should have more news regarding their futures or lack of during the FOX upfronts in the coming months.
