As a band with multiple influences – in terms of both artists and genres – Front Country; Melody Walker, Adam Roszkiewicz and Jacob Groopman – have never been afraid of experimentation and mixing things up with their sound and style. They might have one particular genre in their band name, but as gifted singer-songwriters, composers and instrumentalists, they’ve harnessed the ability to make music that crosses several audience markets, and earned themselves a growing following in the process.
Like many people in and across America, the upcoming US election is one of the biggest and most important issues on their minds, so much so that the band have made the importance of voter registration and subsequently the power of making your voice heard regarding the issues that matter the point of their latest single “Broken Record.” Melody offers further details and says: “Broken Record is both a pop song and a protest song. It is about not being heard – either in the halls of power or in a relationship – but nevertheless, speaking up again and again until you are finally understood. There is so little communication making it across the divide these days but listening is the beginning of empathy, and when it comes to human rights none of us should stay silent. “
The video for the song, which PopWrapped are delighted to premiere, adds a deeper and more meaningful context to the track, pushing voter registration via HeadCount, and honoring a legacy of protest and hard-won civil rights. Talking about directing the video, Melody adds: “We wanted to drive home the protest side of the song and dedicate space in our first real music video to let our fans and community share their ‘broken record’ issue – why they vote – and hopefully inspire others to share, protest, and vote as well. The dancers really brought the energy of the video to the next level to remind us that protest can be joyful and artistic as well. This pop song is hopefully the spoonful of sugar that helps the message of the video sink in, and gets folks excited about voting for issues they care about, rather than just a top-of-ticket name. “
