Magic Mike, which made scores of people across the country swoon over the eye candy and smartly written story about strippers last summer, is still on track to have a sequel.
Steven Soderbergh, the director of the first film, said to Pride Source: “We actually just had a meeting about it the other day. It’s getting pretty far along.”
Channing Tatum, who helped with the script to the first Magic Mike, will likely be helping screenwriter Reid Carolin again.
Soderbergh added: “They’ve got a good idea. There were some stories and events that Channing lived through that we just couldn’t fit in the first one. One of them is a really hilarious and very cinematic idea that we reluctantly didn’t put in the first film, because it was such a big idea you could build a whole film out of it — but we didn’t want to build that film out of it. It’s perfect for this, though.”
Not much is known about the film. It could be a sequel or a prequel since Mike retired at the end of Magic Mike. Also it is unknown who would direct the piece since Soderbergh retired from directing, Though he did say he would offer “help” on Magic Mike 2. There is a rumor that Channing Tatum himself may direct.
According to Tatum himself though it may not be possible: “Reid [Carolin] and I aren’t idiots! We’re not going to direct our first movie as a sequel to a Steven Soderbergh movie. That’s not smart. I want to start with something very small … make a lot of mistakes, make them real early, and then go jump in [on ‘Magic Mike 2’].”
This also sounds A-MAZ-ING! Personally I can’t wait for more male strippers.
My real question though is any word on Magic Mike: The Musical? Then my life would be complete, fellow lawbreakers.
