Having already been a part of the music industry for three decades, and having seen many of her artistic counterparts fall by the wayside and into obscurity, Jenny Bruce, now known as GHOSTE, is all too aware of the importance and power that comes from reinvention and not being afraid to try something a little different. Case in point; her new, debut album, which PopWrapped are delighted to premiere.

Best known for creating multi-award winning pop-folk, the latest collection from Bruce, the first recorded under her GHOSTE persona, can only be described as “sonically audacious”, with each track on the album telling a story in the way that only GHOSTE can; with rare and therefore touching honesty and showcasing incredible vulnerability.

Asked about the inspiration to the album, GHOSTE says: “My late, beautiful mother told me back when I was in my 30s, “At 50, you become invisible, like a ghost. Nobody sees you or hears you anymore.” She died when I turned 38. When I hit my mid-century mark, her words haunted me to the core. I spent so much of my life trying hard to fit in. It never worked. And finally, at 50, I stopped trying. And for the first time, I didn’t feel invisible.

This album is a celebration of being alive, being yourself, and facing challenges head-on. Changing things up. I want to live my life to its fullest and if I’m going to be a ghost, I will be the kind that rattles the chains, whispers in your ear, and plinks your piano in the middle of the night. I decided to make an album different from anything I’d written or recorded before. Less predictable and much more cinematic, bold, and ethereal. I believe, with the very talented Matt Anthony, I accomplished that in this collection of songs. And If my mom were still here, I’d tell her that aging doesn’t take away your voice or make you invisible. Trying to be something, somebody you are not, does.  So, GHOSTE. The E is silent. I am not.”
