The highly anticipated Disney Channel show Girl Meets World, a spin-off series of the ever-popular Boy Meets World, has cast the new Shawn Hunter. Not literally, but after recently casting Rowan Blanchard to play Corey and Topanga’s daughter, Riley Matthews, it was a curiosity among fans who would play the leading actor’s BFF.
Sabrina Carpenter, who previously impressed Disney when she was cast for the pilot of Gulliver Quinn, has landed the role. She will be playing Riley’s best friend, Maya Fox, which may be disappointing to hear, as many fans were hoping for the last name Hunter, allowing Corey and Sean’s bromance to live on through their children. However, just because Maya’s character doesn’t appear to be in the Hunter family line, it does not mean that the friendship Maya and Riley will not rival that of Corey and Shawn’s.
The show is set to begin production next month, welcoming back Ben Savage and Danielle Fishel as Corey and Topanga, and original Boy Meets World creator Michael Jacobs as executive producer. Get excited!
