After 10 great years together, the girl group that shot to fame by winning British talent show ‘Popstars The Rivals’, have decided to call time on their career as the most successful British girl band of the decade. The five-piece: Cheryl Cole, Nadine Coyle, Sarah Harding, Nicola Roberts and Kimberley Walsh, took a break from the group 3 years ago, before announcing a ‘comeback’ arena tour alongside the release of their greatest hits album entitled ‘Ten’.
They performed what turned out to be their last ever show at the Echo Arena in Liverpool (20th March), however according to show-goers there was no mention of the group splitting during the show, leaving many ‘Alouders’ with hope that the band may continue producing music in the near future.
Being the 21st century, they obviously took to popular networking site, Twitter to announce their split. The statement reads: ‘Dear Alouders, we just want to say from the bottom of our hearts Thank you!! This tour has been an amazing experience and the perfect chance to say thank you for being on this journey with us through a decade. It has far exceeded any of our dreams and we hope we are forever your inspiration and reminder that dreams really do glitter!! Your love and support will stay with us forever but we have now come to the end of our incredible time together. Love you lots.’
Many believed the girl group may announce they were splitting for good, due to all the different projects the girls have lined up, Cheryl has already had three number one singles and two number one albums as a solo artist, so I’m pretty sure she’ll be releasing more solo material soon, Kimberley came runner-up on the latest series of Strictly Come Dancing and is also currently working on a solo album, Sarah is pursuing acting, most recently appearing in the Danny Dyer led film ‘Run For Your Wife’, Nicola is currently a mentor on fashion show ‘Styled To Rock’ whilst working on her own make-up range and Nadine is in talks to produce her second solo album.
There is some slightly good news for all you ‘Alouders’ out there, the band are bringing out a DVD of their ‘Ten’ tour, so you can relive all the best moments whilst in the comfort of your own home!
Are you saddened by the split of Girls Aloud? Or do you think it was about time? Hit us up with your thoughts!
