How would you like to own an original Doodle created by your favourite celebrity? What if I told you that by bidding on these masterpieces you were also helping raise funds for Neurofibromatosis research? Well all this is true in the annual Doodle for NF auction which is currently open.
Neurofibromatosis, or NF for short, is the name for a number of genetic conditions. It causes multiple tumours in sufferers that affect their nervous system. The tumours are usually non-cancerous, but are abnormal tissue growths. There is currently no cure for this disease and treatment is more about managing the symptoms as they occur.
Each year the Neurofibromatosis Network holds a Doodle for NF auction. Throughout the year, the organisation collects autographed celebrity Doodles and offers them up for sale during a 10-day auction every May (NF Awareness Month). The 2013 auction began on Thursday 9th May and ends this Sunday 19th May. This year some celebrities have donated two Doodles so the auction on their second doodle is open till Monday 20 May. The majority of Doodles are on a standard 5.5” x 8.5” Doodle card.
The X-Files, Gillian Anderson, who lost her brother to NF in 2011, is honorary spokesperson for the NF Network and has contributed a Doodle to the auction. This year there are 185 celebrity Doodles up for grabs. As well as Gillian’s Doodles there are works by Mayim Bialik (The Big Bang Theory), Anna Camp (Pitch Perfect), Steve Carell (The Office), Chris Colfer (Glee), Ellen DeGeneres, David Duchovny (The X-Files, Californication), Cassidy Freeman (Smallville), Victor Garber (Alias), Jorge Garcia (Lost), Honey Boo Boo, Mads Mikkelsen (Hannibal), Martin Sheen (The West Wing), Becca Tobin (Glee) and many more.
