The Shape of Water is already getting amazing reviews from critics and has earned seven Golden Globe nominations, and now Guillermo del Toro is setting his sights on new projects.
Del Toro and Kim Morgan are collaborating on a rewrite of Nightmare Alley, a film noir following a psychic and a conman at a carnival. Del Toro will also direct the film. The second project is Antlers, a film from the creators of Channel Zero, which del Toro will produce. Variety has described the film, based on the short story The Quiet Boy, as a “supernatural horror spec that follows a young teacher who discovers that her troubled student’s father and younger brother harbor a deadly supernatural secret.” The teacher takes the boy in, and what follows is a battle against unspeakable horrors.
“I am delighted to continue the producing partnership that has been forged with Fox Searchlight during the making of The Shape of Water,” del Toro said. “The entire team are great champions of true cinema. With both Nightmare Alley and Antlers I know we will create entertaining, elevated films.”
While it is exciting to get more movies from such a creative individual, del Toro has previously stated that he’d like to take a year off now that The Shape of Water has hit cinemas. So we probably can’t expect casting news or release dates any time soon.
