Hamartia Unveil Their Latest Single “Pot And Kettle”

“‘Pot and Kettle’ is a song about being involved with a person who is too much like you and trying to make it work with them…”

Hamartia – main members Ethan Schrupp and Zach Melvin, together with Joey Talbott, Max Tessenholtz and Kera Krause – formed in 2018 and had big plans. However, as with most artists, they found those plans having to be put on hold due to the pandemic as it gripped the world last year. Now, with things returning to some semblance of normality, they band are gearing up to release their EP Old Comedy next month, but prior to that, PopWrapped are delighted to premiere their new single “Pot And Kettle.”

Asked what the meaning and story to the song is, the band share: “Pot And Kettle” is a song about being involved with a person who is too much like you and trying to make it work with them, even when it’s failing. The track was our attempt at writing a song that married Simon and Garfunkel’s “Bridge Over Troubled Water” with Jeff Buckley, while aiming for a hymnal quality with its melody and progression.”

Ethan goes on to add: “I was raised Lutheran, and while I no longer consider myself as such, I loved church hymns as a child. I think a lot of your earliest exposures to music will always, at least subconsciously, play a part in what kind of music you like and like to create, so that probably explains why I can’t shake the influence. This is a song about trying to salvage a failing/failed relationship, and I think that the desire to reach some kind of transcendence or happiness or satisfaction or closure is linked to the music of the religious experience, so that bleeds over, even after you’ve moved forward in life.”
