We hope you aren’t eagerly waiting for Harley Quinn to show up on Gotham, because in spite of what may have been promised in the past, it looks like there are no plans for this character to ever appear in the Batman prequel series.
Harley Quinn rumors put to rest
At San Diego Comic Con, producer John Stephens took the blame for the miscommunication, saying “It was my fault. I had thought I had said and I might have not said it: We’ll see a Harley Quinn-esque character.”
He then went on to say that the plan was always to have Barbara Kean take on more characteristics of the popular character, “Because in our mind Barbara was taking on a lot of the ethos and spirit of Harley Quinn, you know, her love of anarchy and violence. All those things that make Harley, Harley in many ways, we were trying to put into Barbara. So I thought that she was becoming a Harley Quinn-esque character. But we’re never going to see Harley Quinn. Sorry about that.”
Previously, Harley was hinted as being someone we’ve already seen on the show by executive producer Ken Woodruff, who said “You may have already seen Harley as a person that you thought you had met and known for a long time. So we always reserve the right to sort of do that as well.”
Though still vague, this does seem to tie in with what the creators are saying now. Still, you would think that this clarification would have come out sooner considering how long the Harley Quinn rumors have been swirling around the show. This means that the creative team behind the series has been deliberately misleading fans for months, not to mention it completely skips over a fan favorite character that viewers would no doubt love to see appear on the show.
