LA’s Harper Starling is dancing her way into the start of 2022 with a brand-new single “Say My Name (Why Don’t Ya Babe)”, which PopWrapped are delighted to premiere, and by hitting the road as tour support for pop boy-band The Wanted.
As an artist whose influences range “…from Billie Holiday to Led Zeppelin via Dua Lipa, Anne-Marie, Adele and Freddie Mercury”, she’s already established herself as someone not afraid to speak out about important issues and topics, with empowerment and self-love being her big two. She likes to put a heavy focus on the lyrics of her songs, saying that: “…because of all the reading I do, I’m more about lyrics than melody”, and that focus is hugely present on her latest single.
Backed up by a powerful Lady Gagaesque voice, her captivating vocals sit beautifully on top of what quite well be the funkiest beat and baseline you will hear this year. “I always say that dancing was my first love but singing is my true love,” says Harper, and her passion for such thrums through every line and every lyric. “Say My Name (Why Don’t Ya Babe)” is a refreshingly elevating track that bleeds with a groove that just calls for people to get up on their feet and dance.
In the last few years, Harper has proven herself to be one of the hottest and most impressive talents around, earning a #1 spot on the Billboard charts back in 2018 with her hit “Euphoria.” UK fans will get to see for themselves why she’s earned so much acclaim and achieved so much success when she takes to stages across the country supporting The Wanted from March 3rd. “I’ve wanted to come to the UK for the longest time,” she shares. “It was my mum’s favourite ever trip – she loves the history – and so I’ve been groomed to want to come to the UK, and I’m coming twice this year!”
