Want to own a piece of pop culture history? Well, Potterheads, now is your chance! If you have $1.3 million to spare, you can own the house where Voldemort killed Lily and James Potter in the Harry Potter films.
The De Vere House, which appeared in Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows: Part One as the Potter’s house, is on the market and is described in the listing as “made famous for its appearance in the Harry Potter films.”
The house has six bedrooms, two bathrooms, and a full dining room. The cottage was first owned by the De Vere family in the 14th century. The property would stay in the family’s ownership until the 17th century, and during medieval times, they were the second wealthiest family—the first being the royal family themselves. In addition to the historical significance, the home also boasts an impressive size and lavish gardens. In modern times, however, it is most well known for being the location of the murder of Harry Potter’s parents, where Voldermort’s killing curse rebounded, kicking off the events of the series.
Adding to the Harry Potter real estate opportunities, 4 Privet Drive was also recently put up for sale. Currently on the market for 475,000 pounds, the interior of the home itself is much more modern and looks nothing like the residence of the horrible Dursley family. It does, however, still have the famous cupboard under the stairs, the perfect place to keep all your Harry Potter merchandise. The actual address of the property is 12 Picket Post Close in Martins Heron, Bracknell in Berkshire.
Sadly, no word yet on when Hogwarts will hit the market. So check your bank accounts at Gringotts folks. You may be able to own a little segment of the Wizarding World!
