So, who wants to help Team StarKid out?! Our favorite group of theater nerds are planning to put on their new musical Twisted this summer, but they can’t do it without you!

Team StarKid seems to have taken a leaf out of the “Veronica Mars” playbook and have set up their very own kickstarter, hoping to raise $35,000 in order to make this show a reality. You can donate as little as $1, and every little bit helps! This ends on April 21, so you have plenty of time to help, if you can.

Twisted is the story of Aladdin…but told from Jafar’s point of view! Sound interesting? The story and script were penned by Nick Lang, Matt Lang, and Eric Kahn Gale, with music by AJ Holmes and lyrics by Kaley McMahon! You can watch Nick, Matt, and Eric discuss the show, why they chose to use a kickstarter, and more HERE.

This is what Team StarKid has to say about their goal:

What We’re Using the Money For

We’re doing all we can to make Twisted an affordable production, but as we’re about to show you, the costs add up fast.
$10,000 to rent the Greenhouse Theater for 5 weeks. This is one of the most affordable spaces we could find in Chicago.
$19,200 to pay our actors. Twisted will have a cast of eight, and with four weeks of rehearsal and four weeks of performances we need to pay them so they can quit their jobs and devote time to the production. As it stands now, Twisted will pay its actors $300/wk.
$6,250 to pay our five musicians $250/wk for their five weeks of work.
$3,000 to rent our rehearsal space for three weeks.
$2,500 for a set.
$2,000 for costumes.
$1,500 for props.
$1,500 for airfare to bring in cast members from New York and LA.

Total it up and its $45,950

Over $10,000 more than we are asking with this kickstarter. We (Nick, Matt, and Eric) are not going to take any pay for our writing, producing, and directing work and are committed to covering the last $10,000 of the budget ourselves if the kickstarter is funded.

We will be super grateful if we can reach our kickstarter goal. But if we are able to raise the entire budget of the show we will be super, SUPER grateful.

And if we raise more than that? Then we can pay our actors more, improve the set, and extend the run. That would be Totally Awesome.”

Sounds like a worthwhile and totally doable goal, don’t you think? And if that doesn’t convince you, Team StarKid has special prizes, like limited edition tshirts and posters, for those who donate!
