East Coast heartthrobs, Alternative-Pop duo, HONESTLY are back with a new single, “< Lovers” also titled, Less than Lovers. The East Coast based duo comprised of Eric Canto and Dalton Winters are a group that we have been fans of and watching at PopWrapped for a few years now.
HONESTLY has just dropped another amazing track that is for sure going to hook you in on this emerging ALT POP duo.
“Cause there’s no hesitation when we’re alone Should we just cross the boundaries of self control? Half past 12; I’m convinced and in my car. Now I’m on my way to find out who you are” Eric sings.
“But we’re less than lovers Enamored with each other Is that why moving this far feels like I’m breaking your heart? And now we’re less than lovers More than friends under covers Chasing each other’s hearts When we don’t know what we are tonight Say so and I’ll come by to do the things I’d do if you were mine And if they find out, that’s fine Are we enamored by our connection or our reckless nights? I’m disarmed by your eyes” – Eric continues
“The song highlights an intensely romantic and sexual relationship progressing quicker than expected, underscoring the palpable tension between partners hesitating to dive completely in. “< Lovers” underpins the exhilarating purgatory experienced when mutual desire meets hesitation: You do not know what you are, but you do not care. Being “more than friends, less than lovers” is diving into the relationship heedlessly embracing desire, indifferent to the destination.”
“< Lovers is the first single off of our extended release album. The song explores the confusion and complications of modern dating as a twenty something, we think its a pretty palpable subject matter, you know? You’re not dating but you could be if labels weren’t such a big deal… you’re literally more than friends but less than lovers… On the nose this song is special to us because it marks the second era of our band’s genesis; the opportunity for us to revisit old ideas and make them new. But deeper than that its an opportunity for us to tell a different story than we told last year sonically and in story.”
“…The first half of the album was truly the band’s genesis, and directly led to us starting this project. Side B, introduced with this single, is the result of us building on that foundation over the last 12 months. < Lovers is full of modulation, big chorusy compressed guitars, and tight punchy arpeggiated bass. We embraced even more modern songwriting elements but didn’t abandon our sonic roots in 80s pop and new wave, which we’re excited to say is indicative of the remaining b side songs awaiting release.”
