How I Met Your Mother Revival Is Rumored

Get excited How I Met Your Mother fans: Fox has said that the show will return! The catch? No dates have been stated.

The statement of the show’s eventual reboot was issued in a conference call regarding the network’s fall television schedule. Despite the highly controversial ending to the show’s nine season run, Dana Walden (chairman and CEO of Fox Television Group) said she would hope to have the opportunity to tell new stories in the show, so long as creators, Craig Thomas and Carter Bays, were on board.

How I Met Your Mother’s leads, Neil Patrick Harris, Cobie Smulders, Alyson Hannigan, Josh Radnor, and Jason Segel have all moved on to other projects since the show finale in 2014. Harris and Smulders are both acting in Netflix original shows (A Series of Unfortunate Events and Friends From College, respectfully) as well as box office hits such as Harris’s role in Gone Girl and Smulders’s appearances as Agent Hill in the Marvel Cinematic Universe. When NPH was asked about a reunion in an interview, he stated that, “Everyone’s kind of gone off and are doing their own stuff.” However, there must be some nostalgia, at least from Harris’s end, as he owns the MacLaren’s booth from the How I Met Your Mother set. Hopefully, the ties are tight enough to draw the cast back together!

Rumored is a spin-off series titled How I Met Your Dad. We can only assume this would be the story from Tracy’s point of view, the woman who eventually marries Ted Mosby after the nine season story.

Considering the other recent reboots and spin-off series, this doesn’t seem far fetched. Gilmore Girls, Game of Thrones, Full House, and X-Files have all announced intentions to or continued their storylines recently. Considering How I Met Your Mother was averaging over 10 million views in the final season and reruns are still played regularly on television, rebooting the show does seem to be a probable idea. “It’s a beloved show that still continues to be popular all over the world,” stated Walden. Fingers crossed for all the How I Met Your Mother fans out there!
