As a fan of hit CBS show NCIS, when I first heard the news that Ziva David (Cote de Pablo) would be leaving the team at the beginning of the new season, I will admit my heart sank.
I am still not over the death of Kate way back in Season Two. I really hoped that they would let Ziva head off into the sunset alive.
According to Gary Glasberg, NCIS’s executive producer, Jethro Gibbs will not be burying another team member. Glasberg did confirm that de Pablo would be leaving in the second episode of the season however she will be leaving alive.
He told TVLine that the character deserved to survive and that he hopes that the fans will be happy with how Ziva leaves NCIS.
"In the second episode, we learn why she’s going to make the decision she’s going to make. We put a lot into that storyline, so I hope it works for people."
As fans begin to prepare for Cote’s departure, the show’s executive producer was keen to point out that the team were clear that they didn’t want to kill Ziva as they did with Sasha Alexander’s character.
"[We killed off] Sasha Alexander’s Kate character [back in season two] and I like the idea of doing this one a little different and respecting who [Ziva] is."
As a fan, I think this is a great choice, Ziva David has always been a very different character to Kate. It would have been frustrating to have them both written out in the same way. It also paves the way for Ziva’s return should de Pablo change her mind.
After the announcement was made of Cote de Pablo’s departure, the President of CBS Les Moonves was keen to say that de Pablo’s departure was her own choice.
Moonves said that the network made a generous offer in an attempt to keep de Pablo.
NCIS returns to CBS on September 24th.
