Elizabeth Taylor is one of the most iconic women in the entertainment industry.  As one of the actresses during Hollywood’s ‘Golden Age,’ she was awarded several Academy Awards as well as a number of awards for her charity work and humanitarian efforts. But behind all of these awards and accolades, was a woman who had eight marriages under her belt in addition to surviving several life threatening illnesses.

Her unique personal life is part of what has drawn so many people to her and fascinated millions for decades. Since her death in May 2011, the world still can’t seem to get enough of the actress, whom Michael Jackson called friend, for over 30 years; especially her relationship with Welsh actor Richard Burton. Last year saw the release of the now infamous Liz & Dick that featured troubled starlet Lindsay Lohan in the role of Elizabeth Taylor.

Now the BBC is presenting their own take on the relationship, which was once condemned by the Catholic Church, in a 90-minute feature titled Burton & Taylor that is set to air Monday July 22nd at 9pm (GMT) on BBC Four.

Burton & Taylor were classified as one of the first celebrity ‘it’ couples, delivering drama, passion and controversy not only together on stage and screen, but off-stage as well. Their tumultuous past together is brought to life on BBC by Helena Bonham-Carter (The Kings Speech) and Dominic West (John Carter).

The network released a teaser clip on Tuesday of Richard Burton (West) attending Elizabeth’s (Carter) 50th birthday. Check out the clip below.
