Recently, social media platforms like TikTok have been putting our eyes on incredible artists as they are quickly becoming a household name amongst young teen and adults. Additionally, artists like Jordy are making a name for themselves with the use of these apps, and inspiring others in different communities that they too can achieve their dream if they keep working at it and make their dreams reality.
Jordy, an emerging (very fastly) artist is making waves in the pop music world. Having blown up super quickly here recently on TikTok – Jordy is making music that a lot of members of the LGBTQ community can relate to, including a track about a long distance relationship with a guy he met on the internet.
With the current pandemic, It’s always interesting to see the way emerging artists are making sure that their voice is continued to be heard. “Long Distance”, Jordy’s latest single is a track that talks about meeting a guy on the internet, and be open to a long distance relationship with the right guy – rather than maybe the wrong guy, in the same location as you.
PopWrapped (PW): First off, for those of our readers that may not know who you are, you are an LGBTQ+ Singer, songwriter, and overall fantastic musician. Over the last few months you’ve took a HUGE growth, not only in your streaming/social numbers, but overall as an artist, too. Do you feel your most recent release, “Long Distance” as well as some of your most recents have solidified you as an artist? How do you feel your music has helped solidify that compared to say music from before 2019-2020?
Jordy (J): First of all, thank you SO much for the kind words; I appreciate that so much. It’s funny, so many of my recent releases have been written during the pandemic, and in a way it makes sense to me. I feel like because shows obviously didn’t happen this past year I was able to really hone in on the writing. It was an adjustment working over zoom with my co-writers and producers but I think some really great music has been made which is always super exciting. I’m grateful that a lot of people are hearing the songs now whether it’s from a TikTok or a Spotify playlist, but I think I’m the same artist now as I was then, but have definitely grown so much.
PW: As someone in the LGBTQ community, we have a handful of mainstream artists that we can always lean to for empowering anthems – How do you, as an independent artist, stay true to yourself while trying to become someone in LGBTQ artistry that people can look up to?
J: I think that’s the key right there! Just staying true to yourself. If you’re doing that, then you’re someone to look up to. I always strive to be as honest and vulnerable as possible in my music, and I am so happy people in the queer community can hear themselves in my songs.
PW: “Long Distance” is a track that you posted on TikTok after a personal experience with a friendship that moved VERY FAST and ended up leading one thing to another and you guys met up and spent a weekend together. All this while during a pandemic (?) With this experience, and the success of “Long Distance”, How are you making sure someone truly wants to be engaging with you for you, and not your social status? Are you and this guy still talking?
J: I feel like things move fast when you’re long distance. It just becomes so many FaceTimes and texts and calls and you just talk and talk and talk and learn so much about each other. I am not with this person any more, mostly just because of timing. We were both at places in our careers where we needed to ultimately focus on ourselves, but I am so happy to have had the experience and very excited about the song that it inspired. In terms of the future and meeting other people, I really trust my intuition. So I will continue just to trust my gut when it comes to peoples intentions.
PW: With the success of “Long Distance”, you have received a ton of amazing attention, including an awesome appearance on The Tonight Show with Jimmy Fallon. What was your initial reaction when you found out Jimmy Fallon wanted you to appear on his show? & of course, we have to ask – how did your fans react to “Wedgie In My Ski Pants?” Which was pretty iconic.
J: The Jimmy experience was INCREDIBLE. Jimmy was so kind and it was such a fun time writing that goofy tune. It seemed like everyone was pretty excited about the song – especially with the Bernie reference. Was proud of that one!!
PW: We cover a lot of independent artists here at PopWrapped, and I represent a few of them in PR as well. You’ve been working for many years, independently. What advice do you have for Independent artists as they work towards finding success in the music industry?
J: I think just finding your pod of people who bring out the best artist and writer in you. I am so lucky to work with such incredibly talented people, and I think that it’s been such a large reason I am where I am. Another thing is just networking as much as possible, sending all of the cold emails ever, dm’ing people you want to work with, just really putting yourself out there is so so important. The more you do that the more you’ll manifest all of the good things coming for you. Just keep writing and let the songs speak for themselves.
PW: “Long Distance” is doing very VERY well – which means, you’ve got to be thinking about how you’re going to top it & keep the new fans locked in. How do you plan to do so, and what can we expect from the music that is to come? Any hints you can give us?
J: There’s so much music always!! I am really excited for this upcoming project (title to be announced at a later date) because I think the songs are just super honest and reflective of some of the best and worst and most emotional moments I’ve had this year. Each song touches on a topic that I think a lot of people will be able to relate to. Some of the songs are already out, “Lip Locked”, “Tomorrow”, “I Just Wanna Be Loved”, and now “Long Distance”. And more will be coming soon!
PW: Lastly, where do you see yourself as an artist in the next 5 years? Personally, there are so many LGBTQ artists we could see you working with, including one we’ve had the pleasure of working with, Sam Pearce, a phenomenal pop LGBTQ artist And do you have any dream collaborations that you would like to lock in even sooner?
J: I just want to keep growing. And eventually start playing shows again!!! In terms of dream collaborations, Julia Michaels has always been the absolute dream. She’s just been such a huge source of inspiration over the years. Her lyrics and melodies haunt me at all times.
It’s no secret that Jordy is going to quickly become a force in not only Pop music, but music as a whole. If you’re as excited for what’s next with Jordy as we are, be sure to check out his Twitter, Instagram, and Facebook for updates. “Long Distance” is out now on all your favorite music streaming platforms.
