Apparently so! At this year’s Cannes Film Festival viewers were shocked at what was considered “the most explosively graphic lesbian sex scene in recent memory” according to Variety.
The film Blue is the Warmest Color debuted today (May 23rd) and follows the story of the love between a Frenchwoman and a teenage girl. Of the film, director Abdellatif Kechiche states: “I didn’t want to make a militant film with a message to deliver about a specific topic, in this case homosexuality. It can of course be seen from that angle. It doesn’t bother me.”
Instead, he wanted the story (and its sex scenes) to resemble paintings in their depth and beauty. According to The Hollywood Reporter, “[This film will] raise eyebrows with its show-stopping scenes of non-simulated female copulation”.
Well, high five for progressiveness! Will you be seeing Blue? I know I will!
