It was all glitz and glamour at this year’s Miss USA competition hosted by E! Network’s Giuliana Rancic and co-host, Nick Jonas. Pageant DJ Pauly D (Jersey Shore) was in the house to keep the party popping as 51 contestants from across the country paraded across the stage at the Planet Hollywood Resort and Casino in Las Vegas.
After celebrity judges that included actress Christina Milian and designer Betsey Johnson, narrowed the field down to the top 15 and then top 10, America got to take part in voting for their favorites on twitter to determine a top 6. Unfortunately, the delegate from Dayton, Ohio, Kristin Mills only managed enough votes to land her a top-ten finish. However, Texas delegate Alexandria Nugent edged her way into the finals due to her popularity among viewers and managed to secure a 4th place finish.
Rounding out the winner’s circle were runner’s up Miss Utah (3rd place), Miss Illinois (2nd place) and first runner up Mary-Margaret McCord, Miss Alabama. Taking the crown this year was 25 year old finance major, Erin Brady from Connecticut. According to NJ.com, “Brady, who struggled with alcoholism in her family, has said she intends to become an advocate for children of addicts. “ Brady will take over reign as Miss USA from Nana Merriweather (who took over for Olivia Culpo after Culpo went on to win the Miss Universe title) and will start her tour of duty by moving into her awarded New York apartment before heading out “on a nationwide speaking tour and raising breast and ovarian cancer awareness, the organizations official cause,” reported the Huffington Post.
Erin will represent the U.S. in the Miss Universe pageant to be held in Moscow, Russia, November 9 of this year. Congratulations Erin!
