After a dozen years and 4 albums, alternative rock band My Chemical Romance announced today via blog post that the band’s time has come to an end. The message was short and heart-felt:

My Chemical Romance’s career was marked with many hits including, “Helena,” “Sing” and “Welcome To The Black Parade.” Their career was also marked with controversy, from the classification as an ‘emo band’ (a label Gerard Way rebutted as “F***ing garbage!”) to being called propaganda pushers by Glen Beck after their song “Sing” was featured on Glee back in 2011.

Overall, MCR helped contribute to the pop punk genre and definitely gave a voice to the ‘disenfranchised youth’ of the 2000s.
