Iwan Rheon says that his new show, Inhumans, will serve as a form of prequel to the classic comic book storyline on whic it is based.
"It seems to me though that in most of the literature, the story's already started and the characters are sort of established, whereas this feels to me a lot more like an origin story." he told Digital Spy in an interview.
The former Game of Thrones mainstay who famously portrayed the highly sadistic and power hungry Ramsay Snow in the acclaimed television series, also hinted that his character, Maximus the Mad in Inhumans, will not be as insane as as he is in the comic books. On the contrary, despite being the superhero series' main antagonist, he may be shown in a much more positive light.
"The interesting thing about him (Maximus) is being the younger, pragmatic brother to an enigmatic, silent man. He's had to overcome a lot, just because he's the King's (Black Bolt) brother, so he's got a bit of a chip on his shoulder." Rheon explained.
"But it's interesting – everyone asks, 'How mad is he? D'you play him mad?' – but he's not mad. Where we pick up the story of Inhumans is not what's necessarily in all the literature." he said "You get to see where Maximus is coming from and what he's all about, before he got the label of 'Mad' – he's just someone who wants to change the world, and he believes that there's a lot of injustice being done to his people."
Unlike other superhero series that has been shown on television, Marvel's Inhumans will center on one family and political interplay, instead of focusing solely on the usual saving-the-world trope. This stems from its source material. The Inhumans series will tell the story of the royal family of the secret and ancient nation of Attilan, whose people are composed of human beings with special abilities.
Iwan Rheon's character Maximus has mental abilities and genius intellect. From the trailer we have seen that he will overthrow his brother, the King Black Bolt, played by Anson Mount. He has a dangerous ability, which is a voice that has destructive capability, and thus he has trained himself to remain always silent.
The first two episode of Inhumans will be shown worldwide IMAX theaters on September 1, meanwhile it will premier on ABC on September 2.
