The Supernatural spinoff series will air as a backdoor pilot for the long running hit CW show later this year. Star Jared Padalecki has thanked the fans for their support and believes that the fandom is the reason for this new addition to the Supernatural universe. He recently told TVline, “Supernatural fans have spoken and said listen, there aren’t 100 million of us, but those of us that do watch the show are passionate and want to hear more stories and read fan fiction and be a part of this world. So I think it’s great.” Padalecki added, “It doesn’t put any money in my pocket, but I think it’s cool.”

At the 2014 TCA CW panel, network president Mark Pedowitz briefly mentioned the series, “Set in Chicago, hunters, monsters. The script just came in.” While this doesn’t exactly enter spoiler territory it does give you the general concepts. The episode doesn’t have an air date as of now but should be sometime in April.

Supernatural airs Tuesdays at 9/8c on The CW
