After much speculation and even a few slips of the tongue by co-host Sherri Shepherd, Barbara Walters made the official announcement on Monday’s that Jenny McCarthy would in fact join the ABC chat fest show in September.
Walters, who is one of the original cast members as well as one of those Executive Producers, commented, “We are delighted that Jenny will be joining us as a permanent co-host on The View starting in September,” said Walters. “Jenny brings us intelligence as well as warmth and humor. She can be serious and outrageous. She has connected with our audience and offers a fresh point of view. Jenny will be a great addition to the show as we usher in an exciting new chapter for The View.”
McCarthy is no stranger to the View table as she has hosted with the ladies on numerous occasions and contributing to the speculation that she was being offered the job. In expressing her excitement, McCarthy stated, “I’m beyond thrilled to be joining Barbara and the other amazing women at the table.”
The addition of McCarthy is part of an overhaul the daytime female led show is going through in hopes of becoming younger and edgier. Long time host Joy Behar will not return for the next season, Elisabeth Hasselbeck has already exited and Barbara Walters will depart in 2014. So what do you think? Is Jenny a good fit for The View?
