It’s only been about a month since Modern Family star Jesse Tyler Ferguson wed Justin Mikita in a ceremony in New York City, but he is making it known that he is enjoying every bit of his new life.
“It’s been great,” Ferguson told People, adding: “It already felt like we were married, so it just feels official and legal now.”
There is one aspect of this wedded bliss that he is still getting used to; the new bling on his finger. ”I keep looking down at my hand and I can’t believe there’s a wedding ring on my finger,” he joked.
Ferguson and Mikita had been dating for about two years before the actor “popped the big Q” to his lawyer boyfriend.
Guest at the wedding included Modern Family cast mates Julie Bowen, Ty Burell, and Ferguson’s on-screen partner Eric Stonestreet. Other guest in attendance were Zachary Quinto, Jerry O’ Connell, Rebecca Romijn, and Mary Murphy. Bryan Rafanelli organized the party at the 82 Mercer space.
Even though the couple resides in California, at the time of planning prop 8 had not been officially named unconstitutional, so the men wanted to be married where it was legal. “Weddings are expensive, y’all, and we wanted to give that money to a state that accepted us as an equal,” he explained. “We’re too far down the planning path to change.”
The wedding party wasn’t all glitz though, the couple asked guest to donate to their marriage equality charity Tie the Knot instead of getting the happy couple gifts.
