He has a cult following as uber geek Sheldon Cooper in The Big Bang Theory; however, it looks like Jim Parsons is letting his serious side show. He has been photographed in New York on the set of Ryan Murphy’s new project, The Normal Heart. The HBO movie (which will premiere in 2014) is set during the HIV-AIDS crisis in 1980s New York, also stars Mark Ruffalo, Julia Roberts, Matt Bomer and Friday Night Lights star Taylor Kitsch. Parsons will reprise the role of gay rights activist Tommy Boatwright, a role he played in 2011 Broadway revival of the Larry Kramer play.
Parsons, 40, is openly gay. He quietly opened up regarding his sexuality and his 10 year relationship with Todd Spiewak back in May of 2012, and this gives The Normal Heart something he can relate to when he was interviewed by the New York Times last year.
Mark Ruffalo, who plays Ned Weeks was also spotted on set and seemed in good spirits as he headed to his trailer.
With a strong and talented cast and a director who has such passion for the story, I cannot wait to see this movie next year and can’t wait to see more from the set.
