Whiplash Star J.K. Simmons to Host Saturday Night Live

J.K. Simmons, star of Sundance hit Whiplash, will be lending his talents to the iconic Saturday Night Live stage on January 31.

Saturday Night Live has been on a roll this past season, bringing in a variety of incredibly talented guest hosts who are able to hold their own against the cast and bring out their comedy chops. The new year has brought us Kevin Hart (who hosted this past Saturday, Jan. 17) and Blake Shelton, who is hosting this upcoming Saturday. However, it is the recently announced news that has me and a lot of other film fans in complete excitement – J.K. Simmons will be hosting the January 31st show.

Simmons has been a dedicated character actor for decades now, and a favorite of film fans around the world. It was only last year, however, that Simmons got the exposure that made him a household name when he starred as the insane and pedantic Terence Fletcher in the Sundance hit Whiplash that brought him acclaim and awards, including his very first Academy Award nomination, which we can all agree he is going to win.

Simmons has shown his great comedic abilities in films such as Juno and Up in the Air and, most notably in his scene-stealing turns as J. Jonah Jameson in the Sam Raimi Spiderman films.

The musical guest for the episode will be D’Angelo, who recently made waves with his first album in 14 years, Black Messiah. He will be appearing with his band The Vanguard.

J.K. Simmons will host Saturday Night Live on January 31st.

Blake Shelton will be acting as both host and musical guest this coming Saturday (Jan. 24).
