The Daily Show is, and always has been, a fan-favorite. J
on Stewart, the hilarious political satirist, is the predominant factor for the show’s unwavering success since he took over as host fourteen years ago. The show has won eighteen Emmys over the course of its life with twelve of those for Outstanding Variety, Music or Comedy Series. Stewart has decided to take a sabbatical this summer so that he may make his directorial debut on the film Rosewater, slated to be released in 2014. So who will take his place, and will he be able to fill his predecessor’s enormous shoes?
John Oliver, arguably The Daily Show’s most popular correspondent, has officially taken over Stewart’s hosting responsibilities.
Oliver sent a reassuring tweet to fans attached to a photo of him drinking a cup of tea at Stewart’s desk.
"Just to reassure everyone—The Daily Show is going to look exactly the same.”
How did Oliver open his first moments on the job? With this lovely quote?
"This is weird. It sounds weird even to me, and this is my regular voice," he rambled.
Oliver’s first night played host to Seth Rogan, who was at the show promoting his new film, This is the End. Oliver joked that he would have to explain to Rogan “who the f@*k I am.” He did not believe the actor would be familiar with him. Turns out, Oliver was wrong! The profanity laded commentary that followed was high quality television!
Oliver will host the show for an eight week stint until Stewart returns on September 3rd.
