CAUTION: THERE ARE SPOILERS BELOW FOR JURASSIC WORLD: FALLEN KINGDOM (2018)
“Ah, ah, ah! You didn’t say the magic word!” But The Wrap certainly did! The next chapter of the Jurassic Park and Jurassic World franchise has got a title: Jurassic World: Dominion (2021).
If you recall from the last Dino blockbuster which received mixed reviews, Jurassic World: Fallen Kingdom ended with what most audiences thought we were going to get in that movie: dinosaurs roaming the earth. Dinosaurs have roamed before, but usually just secluded islands like Isla Nublar or Isla Sorna. Now, they’re in our territory. Or rather…we’re in theirs. This is similar to the climax of The Lost World: Jurassic Park (1997), although this time they’re going far beyond just San Diego, California. Gulp!
If you want a taste of what this film might be like, check out the original Jurassic World director Colin Trevorrow’s short film Battle at Big Rock (2019) on YouTube, released towards the end of last year. While it is just shy of eleven minutes in length, there is no shortage of intensity as we see first hand humans and dinosaurs co-existing at a campsite in the wilderness. The humans appear to be used to this, but that doesn’t mean they still don’t have fear.
Dominion certainly doesn’t sound like a promising future for our heroes, as we can assume it is the dominion of the large prehistoric lizards. It was recently announced that the original trio of actors from the first Jurassic Park (1993) of Sam Neill, Laura Dern, and Jeff Goldblum will be reprising their roles for this third, and possibly final, Jurassic franchise feature. Goldblum of course reprised his role as Dr. Ian Malcolm in The Lost World, and briefly most recently in his cameo for Fallen Kingdom. Sam Neill and Laura Dern returned in Jurassic Park III (2001) as Dr. Alan Grant and Dr. Ellie Sattler, respectively, but that was three movies ago. To have all of them together again on screen for one more adventure in this one will certainly be a thrill to say the least. How big their roles will actually be we can only speculate at this time.
Jurassic World: Dominion hits theaters next summer on June 11, 2021 and will star Chris Pratt (Avengers: Endgame (2019)), Bryce Dallas Howard (Rocketman (2019)), Justice Smith (Pokémon Detective Pikachu (2019)), Jake Johnson (The Mummy (2017)), Daniella Pineda (The Vampire Diaries (2009-17)), BD Wong (Mr. Robot (2015-19)), Omar Sy (The Call of the Wild (2020)), Isabella Sermon (Jurassic World: Fallen Kingdom), Laura Dern (Marriage Story (2019)), Sam Neill (Hunt For the Wilderpeople (2016)), and Jeff Goldblum (Isle of Dogs (2018)).
