Over the course of his career so far, Guillaume de Kadebostany, who goes by Kadebostany, has amassed more than a billion streams for global chart-topping, pop-infused and self-composed tracks. Including his 2013 cover of “Crazy In Love” which attracted huge attention thanks to a ’40 Shades of Grey’ cameo. Now, he’s gearing up to drop a new EP, but first, he’s just unveiled the video to his latest single “Take Me To The Moon” and PopWrapped caught up with him to find out more about the upcoming collection and how he came to collaborate with Valeria Stoica on his new track.
Can you tell us about your new single “Take Me To The Moon”? What does it mean to you?
I wrote my new single “Take Me To The Moon” with Valeria Stoica in 2020. The writing session took place in Lausanne, Switzerland 3 days before the first lockdown. I was inflected by David Bowie’s song “Space Oddity”; I wanted to explore the story of someone who gets out of the earth in search of a better world.
How did Valeria Stoica get involved on the track?
The A&R of the Romanian label we usually work with asked me if I wanted to work with a young folk artist from the Republic of Moldova. I listened to Valeria and got hooked! I love her voice and her world. I’m used to collaborate with a lot of different people, musicians, singers, designers. This is the basis of my work.
You’re known for your strong visual identity and international live performances. Can you divulge your ideas for performing “Take Me To the Moon” live in the future?
I always try to present live versions of my songs that are different but where you still find the essence of the song. In 15 years I’ve gone through every possible live setup imaginable. 10 horns, a chamber orchestra, percussion etc. And once again I’m going to present something different. I’m currently working on a system with a modular synth, an Akai MPC sampler, brass, guitarist and several vocalists. Live is one of the last places where you can be completely free these days. The result is coming soon.
How has the quarantine impacted your creative process?
In fact I was even more creative than usual. I was also able to concentrate on things that I’ve wanted to do for a long time, like starting my own TV channel: KADEBOSTANY TV. It’s a way to explain my creative process and hopefully inspire people to develop their own projects. I was able to go even deeper into specific areas such as sound synthesis, sound design and film music.
What can we expect from your upcoming EP?
The next EP Drama Act 2 will be released around May. It will be in the vein of my new single “Take Me To The Moon” – melancholic with a touch of hope and quite uplifting. Also, a lot of vocal collaborations as well as a Ukrainian folk choir that I’m a big fan of.
You mentioned vocal collaborations. Who would you like to collaborate with in the future?
I would like to collaborate with as many people as possible. I like what happens in exchanging and bouncing ideas. It’s the best thing for me to always reinvent myself and stay relevant over the years.
