After the ceremonial burning of her “Baby Blue” California Girls wig, Katy Perry has revealed the second of her “Roar” teasers.
Opening with an eagle eye shot of a funeral, the personification of Teenage Dream is being buried. Her friends and family are dressed to the nines to see off not only the album, but also that era of Perry’s life. Panning through the broken-hearted crowd, we briefly stop upon a casual Katy, still comfy in her thick knit jumper and sunglasses, before she smirks off her indifference: “#ROAR Aug 12” flashes up in garish tiger print once again.
One thing’s for sure, this girl sure knows how to get people talking. With her broken marriage behind her, Perry is ready to shed her candy-striped image in favour of something more mature for Prism, her third album under the Perry moniker. She told ABC: “I am plenty pleased with everything I’m writing. I think it’s going to be a little bit more of a mature version of ‘Teenage Dream’. I call it adult reality show.”
The teasers are quaint and effective in creating quite the buzz and social media sites have been bursting at the revelations. This album campaign is genius in its execution: having a gargantuan golden truck drive through America revealing the new album title is fresh and exciting - what it lacks in subtlety, it makes up for in sheer effectiveness. Gaga is just around the corner, equipped with realms of endless controversy to advertise ARTPOP, and so the battle for the pop crown continues.
With Baby Blue burnt and Teenage Dream finally laid to rest, the world can only speculate what the next teaser will offer. Information regarding Prism is coming thick and fast and with Perry recently becoming the most followed woman on twitter, she’s garnering some impressive, and much deserved, attention.
“Roar”, the presumed name of Prism's first single, is expected to drop August 12th with the album following worldwide on October 22nd.
