KEANA Unveils Her New Single “Lilac” & Its Video

“It speaks about wanting to be transported to another world where life stresses and fear do not exist.”

Southern California based singer, songwriter, multi-instrumentalist and producer KEANA, inspired by the likes of Massive Attack, Grimes, and Phantogram, creates equally enthralling music that is both experimental yet commercially appealing with a dreamlike euphoric sonic glow. Since debuting on the scene in 2020, KEANA has built a reputation for creating a unique fusion of indie pop, electronic and dark synth rock, and PopWrapped are delighted to premiere her new single “Lilac” and its video.

In “Lilac”, KEANA explores the wisdom found in meditation and dream states. She says of the song: “It speaks about wanting to be transported to another world where life stresses and fear do not exist. It is inspired by a dream I had one night I believe when I was living in Boston at the time. In this dream I heard this voice speaking to me. I felt that it was guiding me to this mysterious place where I could relax in paradise. The only way I could describe this being was a ‘White Phantom,’ this being of light that took me to places of “lilac islands and lavender beaches.” As an artist who often uses her vivid imagination to find solace, “Lilac” reminds the listener that to find happiness we must go inward to find the peace found within us all. Featuring whirling synths, evocatively warm vocals and colorful otherworldly beats, it’s an imaginative indie pop banger.

The accompanying visuals show KEANA in a violet hue – which alternates between vivid and muted, demonstrating the artists’ influence in both fantasy and reality – and features contemporary choreography from dancers at Cal State Fullerton. Asked about the story to/idea behind the video, she explains: “I wasn’t sure initially how I wanted the performance for the video to be. Around the time when I was brainstorming for it, I was getting drinks with a friend who happens to be majoring in dance at Cal State Fullerton. She said, “Some of the dancers in my class love your song. They’re big fans and we already came up with choreography as a contemporary piece.” I thought, let’s take this to the next level and have them be in the music video! Everything fell into place perfectly, they’re incredible.”
