Imagine the awkwardness if at every wedding you turned up to, guests are forced to sit through your embarrassing baby videos while the bride sits pouting in the corner wondering if anyone is going to remember that it’s her wedding not yours. Pretty awkward, right?
Kevin Bacon thinks so too, which is why he admitted to chat show host Conan O’Brien this week that he pays DJs to not play his hit song Footloose, from the 1984 movie of the same name, at weddings he attends. "I go to the disc jockey and hand him $20 and say, ‘Please don’t play that song’.”
Speaking about why he dislikes his own song being played, Bacon explained: “A wedding is really not about me, it’s about the bride and groom and it’s embarrassing.” Amid a highly entertaining impression of wedding guests reacting to the song being played at receptions, he admitted, "It’s awful. Just awful… I try to avoid that if possible."
In the interview, shown on Conan, the actor also discussed how he nearly didn’t land the iconic part of Ren, his character from Footloose: “ The producer of the movie wanted me, and the director of the movie wanted me, but the head of the studio at the time literally said to them ‘I don’t want that kid: he’s not ****able’.”
Can you imagine the 1984 version of Footloose without Kevin Bacon? Me neither. Still, it would make his time at weddings easier.
