Writer/director Kevin Smith’s second installment in his “Great White North Trilogy” (which started with Tusk) has finally gotten its first trailer released. The trailer for Smith’s film, entitled Yoga Hosers, landed online yesterday, and it is a weird and wild looking film.
The film stars Harley Quinn Smith and Lily-Rose Depp (the daughters of Kevin Smith and Johnny Depp, respectively) as a pair of teenage convenience store clerks (sound familiar?) both named Colleen who become embroiled in a mysterious invasion by Nazi sausage monsters, aptly named “Bratzis,” who are all played by Kevin Smith himself in heavy makeup. The Colleens are aided in their case by Johnny Depp’s bumbling private detective Guy Lapionte, reprising his role from Smith’s horror thriller Tusk.
The official synopsis for Yoga Hosers reads: “Two 15-year-old yoga enthusiasts in Manitoba who work at a convenience store after school join forces with a legendary man-hunter to battle an ancient evil and fight for their lives.”
The movie earned an R-rating from the MPAA, but Smith protested the rating, claiming that it was too harsh, and, eventually, the movie’s rating was changed to PG-13. Smith does, however, have a history with some raunchy R-rated comedies, such as Clerks and Mallrats, so don’t be surprised if an R-rated version is released on home video.
Yoga Hosers has played at several film festivals, including Sundance, and Kevin Smith will tour the country screening the film this summer.
Austin Butler, Tyler Posey, Ralph Garman, Jennifer Schwalbach, and Vanessa Paradis also star, with additional roles and appearances coming from Justin Long, Stan Lee, Kevin Conroy, and Haley Joel Osment. The film will hit theaters on July 29th.
