It looks like Lamar Odom has been playing some games, and I don’t mean on the basketball court. The Los Angeles Clippers star is in hot water for the allocations of funds for his charity Cathy’s Kids. Founded in 2004, Cathy’s Kids has raised $2.2 million for cancer research and to help underprivileged children. In addition to donating his own money, Odom and his wife Khloe Kardashian shared a joint eBay store where personal items of theirs were sold, and the proceeds were given back to the charity.
In a somewhat suspicious move the store was closed, and pulled from eBay after news of the scandal broke. Khloe, who is no stranger to scandal, was quick to defend her husband.
“The millions of dollars personally contributed by Lamar constituted more than 90% of the money raised by the foundation. All of the funds donated by Lamar and the other contributions to Cathy’s Kids were used for one of the foundation’s intended charitable purposes. Not one penny went to help Lamar personally or any member of his family. No charitable funds were misused, and the IRS has repeatedly given Cathy’s Kids a clean bill of health, confirming that there were no improprieties.”
Kardashian goes on to that during Cathy’s Kids inception it had two causes in mind: cancer research and underprivileged youth. They decided somewhere down the line to only focus on the latter. She goes on to state that the charity has funded multiple AAU basketball teams. By multiple they mean only two, who reportedly received $1.3 million. See?? No misuse there!
Well maybe… Henry Forrest, president of the Amateur Athletic Union (AAU) released a statement today that all reports of Cathy’s Kids donating to them were false."Cathy’s Kids has never donated to us. They have never, ever contributed to us. On Sunday morning it was mentioned that Cathy’s Kids has contributed to AAU Basketball teams … that is an incorrect statement.”
So where is that $2.2 million dollars? To further try to distract from this mess, Kardashian tweeted about her new charity venture. She urged her followers to participate in an auction where the proceeds went to Dec My Room Los Angeles, who specialize in redecorating the room of a sick child. Regardless of her new charity, things are not looking good for the Odom’s. Make sure you follow @Popwrapped for the latest news concerning the case!
