After being off the air for 5 years Veronica Mars may be sleuthing her way back onto your TV screens! Creator Rob Thomas and Kristen Bell have teamed up to make fans dream a reality. Both Bell and Thomas have not been able to let go of the series, Bell in particular. “I have never fallen so deeply in love with a character,” Bell remarked to Entertainment Weekly. “We all became so close, and the cancellation of the show left a huge hole in my heart. I would have put on Veronica Mars: The Circus to bring it back.”
Thomas had actually penned a script for a feature film after the show’s cancellation back in 2007. Warner Brothers declined funding the project due to it being too expensive and not viable for the studio, but Thomas wasn’t going to give up. Starting today the duo plan to keep Veronica Mars alive through a Kickstarter. The goal is $2 million dollars in 30 days. If they can meet it Warner Brothers Digital Distribution will put the movie into production. Not only that but they will also pick up the tab for marketing, promotion, and distribution of the project.
Shooting for a release in the first quarter of 2014 the project would have a limited-time theatrical run. Then it would move to Video On Demand, iTunes, and other digital platforms. If the goal isn’t reached there will be no movie. But there are perks for donating to the cause for example a pledge of $10 will get you a pdf copy of the shooting script the day of the movie release as well as set updates and behind the scenes scoop. It only gets better from there if you pledge $400 or more Kristen and Rob will follow you on twitter for a year, not to mention you get a signed movie poster, a Blu-Ray/DVD combo pack, digital copy of the movie, a t-shirt and a copy of the script. 8 people have already gotten their hands on that pledge pack!
The mack-daddy pledge package? All of the above plus a speaking role for $10,000. And guess what?! Someone got it. At the time of this articles publication the project already has 6,286 backers and has had $503,927 pledged. Do you think that they can pull it off? They are well on their way! If the fans keep it up we could be seeing Veronica Mars a lot sooner than we think!
